On 31/12

It's been freezing cold these days.

Many of the people at office have been donating money to the charities hoping to get more resources to the tsunami victims. Seeing peopel helping each other is probably the only one good thing from this disaster.

They said some of the new colleagues have left shortly after they joined the company. The way they discussed on the issue made me feel as if the remaining staff are losers. Where's my career.

Back to office

Work again after 5 days off. Not much work at the moment but I think I'd better be mentally prepared for the busy weeks or even months. It's hard because I have been in a relaxed mood so far.

Been to a game of bowling with the boss and the team that I would work with. I never knew this is such a tiring sport and at the same time......... that bad a bowler I could be.

Had dinner at Aqua after that. The food was great and the place was so amazing with the great view of the other side of the Victoria Harbour. Not bad really for a bill of $650 per head.

Old friends

Had hotpot dinner with some primary schoolmates. We went to karaoke afterwards and exchanged gifts. Amazing that one of us is already a mother of two.

Chatted with H at the bus terminal all night long. She is just brilliant and her words are really inspiring. On my way back home I thought about when did we first met and I figured out it was already more than 5 years ago.

happy moments

Had a really good Christmas gathering with most of my jongmates last night. We exchanged gifts and what I had was a vacuum cleaner. Amazing.

功夫

Watched the all hyped Kung Fu Hustle. I would say I was a little bit disappointed though I don't exactly know how my expectations had not been fully met.

It seems Stephen Chow was trying real hard to get everything into his movie and hoping to satisfy a huge and diversed pool of movie-goers from all over the world. This ambition really deserves a round of applause even if the actual movie may not be that magical.

See what you have in 99 minutes. Punch lines. Gags. Some touching storylines. Some morals. Lots of computer-aided visual effects comparable to Matrix. Lots of fight scenes much better than those in Matrix. Lots of movie stars of different styles and backgrounds. Tributes to old-fashioned Kung Fu movies. Reminders of classic Chinese and Hollywood films. Not to forget the many streams of martial arts.

I am definitely not a good reviewer of a movie as I would forget most of it even right after watching. What lingers in my mind is often how I feel when I was watching. I would say a movie is superb if I am all absorbed and moved in the theatre. This time, everything was there but it just lacked the connection straight to my heart. That's probably why I felt somehow empty when the movie ended.

Anyway it's already better than Shaolin Soccer though it couldn't surpass King of Comedy. Stephen Chow, what would be your next goal??? Maybe it's too much pressure for you.

Christmas Eve

Some shopping, fine dinner and a walk in Tsim Sha Tsui. For some weeks this city has been filled with the feeling of Christmas and it's reaching a climax today. It's really packed everywhere and people are buying stuff like they are insane. Been to one of the Ralph Lauren stores today and people were picking up clothes as if they are some $100 for 3 goods. No supurise when you see all the people are wearing Polo shirts some day, you could tell they aren't fakes.

It was so crowded in Canton Road that you may think 49% of the population were in TST (and another 49% in Causeway Bay). There were many people performing and singing Christmas carols. Teenagers were trying to get hooked up with somebody.

Started heading home at around 11:20. I am too old to push a path for me and my girlfriend to move in the crowds. Anyway it's kind of happy to know this city is being all cheerful and alive at this time.

Party Time

The bosses threw a company party this afternoon. Many of the senior staff are on leave already but still there were many people there, including some of those big shots. Anyway as some small potatoes what we cared about were the food and drinks.

We were supposed to leave at 4pm but somehow I left office at 9:30. The winterfest was right next to our building so I listened to the "Merry Christmas, everyone" song for a lot of times. Provided I would have a day-off tomorrow on Christmas Eve, that's acceptable.

The Bulls have just recorded 5 straight wins. They have been one of my favorite since last year. They are so young and full of energy. Hope they'd make the playoffs soon. Not easy though.

9 to 5 in reality

These days, I have been going to work mainly for chitchating and the food at lunch hours as many of the managers are on leave and our year-end projects wouldn't start until next month. It's really amazing. However my senior kept telling me I would be super-busy in January and I would be handling tasks that I don't even have a clue of what they are. I am kind of excited about that because I would be producing some analyses on something I don't know within a short time limit. Ridiculous.

Maroon 5's "Songs about Jane" is such a good album. I am totally into the song "Sunday morning" in particular.

Cowardy

Recently I kept bumping into people that I didn't really want to meet now. It isn't their problem. To be precise I don't want them to see me and know how I am now. To me it's better that they only exist in my memories. Sometimes I feel so ashamed of myself.

Mingpao is no longer a good newspaper. It's getting more biased, and many of the articles contributed by those freelance writers are crap.

Relaxed times

Had lunch with some colleagues today. After that we went to HMV so as to kill time as we had not much to do at office anyway. If anyone is goint to get me some Christmas gift, please consider the Linkin Park/Jay-Z Collision Course DVD/CD set.

The good old days

Had a long chat with Douglas last night. We kept recalling the memorable moments back in secondary school, especially those spent with the new ladies in the final two years. That was a great time though actually I don't have much feeling to that now.

I don't have the intention to gather with anybody from my secondary school except my buddies and a couple of teachers that are really important to me. Back then, I had made quite a lot of friends actually. I missed them like crazy when I left school. Yet I have been kind of detached after some time. I don't want to indulge in the happy days in the past. I don't want them to know how I am doing either.

Because I know - I just know that I am no longer the person I was.

Recollections

The Tat Ming concert last Friday night was awesome. I am not a big fan of them and I don't even know some of the songs they sang. What had made the 3 hours amazing was that mixture of old and new elements - the mood of the 80s and sophisticated electronic arrangements.

Ellen Joyce Loo...... she rocks. What a wonderful world.

Seeing my buddies again had made the night even better.
